German sauerkraut

4 servings
2 pound sauerkraut, I used the on in a bag from publix
3 slices bacon, keep drippings
1 can beef broth
5 cloves
3 bay leaves
6 juniper berries, found them in german store, Sanford fl
1 teaspoon caraway seeds, buy sauerkraut with the seeds then you don't have to add any
Salt for taste
Half teaspoon sugar


Wash sauerkraut to take the sour taste out. Fry up bacon, when done cut in small pieces to add to sauerkraut later.  Leave bacon tripping in pot, add sauerkraut and all other ingredients add half of the broth.  You don't want it to wet, keep checking if you have to add broth.  Cook for at least 4 or 5 hours on simmer.  You can do it in a crock pot too.   You can add smoked pork chops, bratwurst, kielbasa to the sauerkraut to add flavor.  Serve with potatoes.    Guten Appetit
