Split Pea Soup

 

Serves 6 to 8 people

1 pound green split peas
1 meaty ham bone or get diced smoke pork shoulder
1 cup diced onions
1 teaspoon salt
1/2  teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram
1 cup diced celery
1 cup diced carrots

Rinse peas, combine with 2 quarts of water, ham, onion, salt, pepper, and marjoram. Bring to boil; cover and reduce to simmer for 1 1/2 hour. Stir occasionally. 
If you have bone, remove cut off meat and dice.  Return meat to soup and add celery and carrots  cook slowly for 30 min uncovered.  Enjoy
